Making The Most of Your Magento Conversion Rate

It was my pleasure to play a small part in a talk given this week to the followers of Magento North East, organised by the team at Peacock Carter.

Andy Redfern, our Technical Director and myself ran the listeners through 2 topics “CRO tools for Magento” and “Using the Magento API”.

Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO) is a system for increasing the percentage of visitors to a website that convert into customers. Or more generally, take any desired action on a webpage, on an ecommerce site it is about turning as many visitors as possible into customers.

Understanding the customer’s journey is key as this will then allow you as the business owner, set goals specific to your site.

We’ve all heard of and probably used the SMART acronym when listening to or giving talks through our working life, having your goals be Specific, Measureable, Achievable, Realistic & Timed is key for CRO.

There seems to be a lot of agencies talking about CRO at the moment giving people the impression that this service is something new and impossible to understand.

Taking CRO further onto Magento sites specifically, there are 3 services out there that will help you increase your conversion rate that we as a team have had experience in using. A quick run through of these are: –

1. Nosto – A fantastic web application for managing campaigns. Through our work on Magento we have used this Magento extension a number of times to great success. Nosto learns about your customers and begins to make recommendations as it learns what works and what doesn’t work.

2. Address Verification – PCA Predict – A simple to install extension that allows the user to perform an address look up. Recently enhanced the extension includes world-wide address look up support which allows clients to see bad addresses and decreases international order errors.

3. Independent Reviews – Everyone loves independent reviews, Google loves them, customers love them and clients….are getting to the stage where they love them! We have implemented several schemes such as Feefo, Ekomi & Google Certified Shops. From a CRO stand, points trust is a huge factor in your customer’s eyes and reviews give that trust.

There are so many more steps to making your site perform to the best of its capabilities no matter what platform your site is built, far too many to write down in a short blog post.
